Home Palliative Care Mentorship Program

A free and accredited program

Our program was launched in 2019 thanks to the generous financial support of Croix Bleue du Québecᴹᴰ. Accredited by the Faculty of Nursing at the Université de Montréal, it enables nurses to expand their knowledge and strengthen their skills in
providing palliative and end-of-life care at home.

Our training includes:

  • Three theoretical modules (8.25 accredited hours) offered online or in person, depending on the region;

  • A practical component (5.5 accredited hours): one full day in the field alongside a Nova nurse, to deepen clinical practice;

  • Clinical and telephone mentorship, to support caregivers facing complex situations.

Expertise serving communities

Since 2019, several hundred nurses across Quebec have taken part in this training, thereby enhancing their professional practice and strengthening their capacity to deliver palliative and end-of-life care that is compassionate, safe, and tailored to the home context.

A Mission Carried Forward

Today, Nova Home Care has the privilege of continuing its training mission, allowing more and more people to receive the palliative care they need. This essential work is made possible thanks to the generosity of remarkable major donors such as the
Marcelle and Jean Coutu Foundation.

Please note that, at this time, our training is offered only in French.

Testimonies

Annie et Lorraine Brown_Formation janvier 2026.jfif

"I greatly appreciated the day I spent shadowing the Nova nurse in home-based palliative care.

I was particularly impressed by my mentor's ability to establish a genuine connection with the family of an end-of-life patient. Thanks to her expertise, she was able to reassure and guide them with professionalism and compassion regarding the care to be provided to their loved one.

I also had the opportunity to observe the interprofessional collaboration between Nova and the CLSC, and to see how effectively their services complement each other in the context of home care.

It was an extremely enriching experience, and I am sincerely grateful to have had this opportunity."

- Lorraine Brown, Clinical Nurse who received our training in January 2026

‘’What I liked most about shadowing a Nova Home Care nurse was I was able to get a better sense of the day-to-day work of a home palliative care nurse. The mentor was engaging, open to sharing her knowledge and experience, and a pleasure to
engage with.

It was also wonderful to see the nurse work with other care providers, including doctors and nurses at the CLSC, to provide compassionate care as a team to the vulnerable population in our community. Thank you for the opportunity!’’

Patient and Nurse

The Nova Home Care team is wholeheartedly committed to expanding access to palliative and end-of-life care at home across Quebec, by sharing its extensive expertise.

Every person deserves to live their final moments with dignity, surrounded by compassionate care, in the comfort of their own home, if that is their wish.

To meet this growing need, we have developed a one-of-a-kind training program in Quebec, through which our team shares its nursing knowledge.
